‘American Idol’ Has New Champion!

Abi Carter Snags 'American Idol' Title

INDIO —Two winners emerged from “American Idol” Sunday night. The first was Abi Carter; the second was undeniably the city of Indio.

The city has embraced their native daughter from the outset doing all it could to support her. It is bursting with pride to have bragging rights to this rising star.

On May 14, Carter was named “Mayor for the Day.”

The city erected billboards, closed city streets for a parade and welcomed her to play on the newly opened Center Stage.

“Indio’s pride soared as Abi Carter captivated audiences nationwide on ‘American Idol,’ showcasing her extraordinary talent and charisma,” Jessica Mediano, marketing and public information officer, told Uken Report, “What truly resonated was witnessing the boundless support of her community in Indio and across the Coachella Valley rallying behind one of their own.”

Indio holds a special place in the hearts of its residents, and Abi’s journey amplifies that sentiment tenfold, Mediano said. “To have such a gifted and endearing individual like Abi represent our city on the national stage is a source of immense pride and joy and something you truly can’t pay for as millions of viewers tune in each week.”

When the possibility of a hometown visit emerged as Carter was voted into the Top 3, city staff leapt into action, she said, “Understanding the significance of this moment, we made the heartfelt decision to redirect resources originally allocated for the May Second Saturday event towards ensuring a memorable homecoming celebration for Abi as the financial responsibility of these hometown events are hosted by each city or community alone.”

Money can’t buy the kind of attention Carter has brought to the largest city in the Coachella Valley. Indio is already home to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival. It seems only fitting that it is now home to an American Idol.
