Assemblymember Wallis Honors Do the Right Thing Greater Palm Springs as Nonprofit of the Year
PALM SPRINGS – Do the Right Thing Greater Palm Springs was formally recognized as the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 47. Assemblymember Greg Wallis, R-Bermuda Dunes), formally recognized the organization during a news conference Friday morning at the Palm Springs Police Department
“Do the Right Thing exemplifies the very best of community service,” said Wallis. “By empowering youth, building trust between young people and law enforcement, and fostering a stronger sense of community, this organization is changing lives across the Coachella Valley.”
Founded in 2023, Do the Right Thing Greater Palm Springs has recognized over 2,300 students from across 41 local schools for their integrity, leadership, and positive contributions. The program has also awarded $60,000 in scholarships to 47 graduating seniors from 14 high schools in the region, helping them pursue higher education.
“Do the Right Thing receives more than 300 nominations each month from educators, parents, and community members—shining a light on students whose stories of kindness and resilience often go untold,” Wallis said. “The program is cherished in our community and creates lasting connections between youth and public safety professionals.”
Assemblymember Wallis presented an Assembly Resolution to program founder and Executive Director Dr. Terri Ketover and Palm Springs Police Department liaison Lt. Villegas.
“The Do the Right Thing program has recognized more than 2,200 area students for their positive attitudes, behavior, and accomplishments since its founding in 2023, and awarded $100,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors representing every high school in the Coachella Valley,” Ketover said in a statement. “We are incredibly grateful for the support we have received from Assemblymember Wallis. Each month, the Assemblymember provides Certificates of Achievement for our ‘special recognition’ winners, congratulating them on their selection and expressing appreciation for their positive behavior — something they will have forever reminding them to do the right thing.”
