Avoid Costly Clogs! Keep Fats, Oil, and Grease Out of the Drain

The holidays are coming, with dinners and celebrations planned, make sure to avoid disposing of fats, oils, and grease (F.O.G.), down the drain. They can clog and damage your plumbing when poured down drains. These substances often solidify in pipes, creating blockages that are expensive to repair.

Protect your home by following these tips:

  • Scrape, Don’t Pour: Always scrape greasy materials and food scraps from cookware and dishware into a can or green trash bin for proper disposal.
  • Use Sink Strainers: Place strainers in sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids. Empty these into the trash, not down the drain.
  • Avoid Garbage Disposals for Grease: Grease and greasy food should never go in garbage disposals, as they only break solids into smaller pieces without eliminating grease.
  • Wipe Before Washing: Wipe down cookware and dishware before washing to minimize grease in the drain.
  • Encourage friends and neighbors to keep F.O.G. out of the drain, protecting everyone’s plumbing.
