Ben Guitron to Challenge Lupe Ramos Amith in Indio City Council Race

INDIO — Ben Guitron, an administrative officer for the Indio Police Department, is ramping up his campaign to challenge incumbent Lupe Ramos Amith to represent District 5 on the Indio City Council in the November election. Ramos Amith is currently serving a one-year rotation as mayor.

Guitron, a well-known leader in the community, served as the department’s spokesperson from 1999 to 2014 when he stepped down to assume other duties and challenges in the department.

Given that it is days before the start of Stagecoach, Guitron could not immediately be reached for comment.

Guitron held his first meet-and-greet event this week.

“It was overwhelming to connect with old friends and make new ones who share our vision for a better Indio,” Guitron wrote in a Facebook post. “Your enthusiasm and energy were inspiring, and I’m excited as we continue this journey together. As we move forward, stay tuned for more events where we’ll dive deeper into important topics like sustainable growth, public safety, and community empowerment. Together, let’s keep building towards a brighter future for Indio’s District 5!”

The official nomination filing period opens July 15 and closes on Aug. 9. If an incumbent fails to file by the deadline, the nomination period will be extended through August 14, 2024.

To set up an appointment for the issuance of nomination papers please contact the City Clerk Administrator at ssanchez@indio.org or 760-391-4006.
