Blythe Area Road Repair Projects Approved for Construction
PALO VERDE VALLEY – Three road repair projects, totaling approximately $4.18 million, will fix two miles of county roadways in the Palo Verde Valley: on Mesa Drive in Mesa Verde, Lovekin Boulevard by Felix J. Appleby Elementary School and Hobsonway near the entrance to the City of Blythe.
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract for all three projects to Hardy & Harper, Inc. of Lake Forest. The road repair projects are expected to start construction by the end of the year.
The Riverside County Transportation Department is managing the roadwork, and partnering with the City of Blythe on the Hobsonway project which spans portions within the city’s jurisdiction. The city’s contribution, $606,000, covers nearly 15 percent of the $4.18 million total cost for the three projects.
“We have some major upcoming roadwork in the Blythe area that will be starting soon,” Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said in a prepared statement. “These roads have reached the point of deterioration requiring pavement reconstruction. These projects will give them brand new pavement that makes them beautiful, safe, smooth and long-lasting. I am excited that they will fix very important roadways such as Hobsonway right near the entrance to Blythe and its main corridor, in Mesa Verde by the freeway, and on Lovekin Boulevard by Appleby Elementary School, which will complement the new paved road that was completed last year as a safe routes to school project.”
The Lovekin Boulevard Reconstruction Project will rehabilitate a 0.85-mile segment of Lovekin Boulevard just outside the City of Blythe limits, from Seeley Avenue to 4,400 feet north of Seeley Avenue.
The Mesa Drive Resurfacing Project will rehabilitate a quarter-mile segment of Mesa Drive, from Bellwood Drive to Black Rock Road/Hobsonway, in the unincorporated community of Mesa Verde near Interstate 10, west of the City of Blythe.
The Hobsonway Resurfacing Project will rehabilitate a 1.2-mile stretch of Hobsonway, from Florence Boulevard West to 2,680 feet east of De Frain Boulevard, near the entrance to the city.
The three projects’ total cost is approximately $4.18 million, of which $3.57 million is from Riverside County’s SB 1 funds, generated from the gas taxes and vehicle registration fees paid by motorists.
