Cathedral City Police Rescue Man after Alleged Kidnapping Plot

CATHEDRAL CITY — A 36-year-old Cathedral City man was the victim of an alleged kidnapping plot on Tuesday, June 1 about 9:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Larry Sanfillippo of the Cathedral City Police Department Detective Bureau.

The alleged victim’s name has not been released.

The incident occurred in the 37000 block of Bankside Drive.

Two brothers from Cathedral City, both suspects, were booked into the Riverside County Jail and charged with kidnapping, torture, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and terrorist threats.

Arrested were Eduardo Luis Espinoza, 32, and Carlos Jose Espinoza, 30.

On June 1, 2021, at approximately 0924 hours, Cathedral City Police Dispatch received a 911 call from an adult male who claimed to have been beaten, zip tied and held against his will for days. The victim was able to give officers information that led them to the 37000 block of Bankside Drive where evidence was located that cooperated his claim. Additional information was gathered identifying two suspects involved who were later arrested without incident.
