DHS Voters Have Six Candidates from Which to Choose in Two Districts
DESERT HOT SPRINGS —Registered voters in this community have a wide variety of new candidates from which to choose their leaders in the Nov. 5 election.
Desert Hot Springs residents will be voting for two councilmembers and a mayor in November. Voters will also decide whether to increase sales taxes.
There are six candidates vying for a seat on the City Council. Councilmember Russell Betts and entrepreneur Stephen Giboney are challenging Mayor Scott Matas for mayor.
All registered voters in the city are eligible to cast a vote for mayor. Councilmembers are now elected by districts. Only voters in the district are eligible to cast votes for that candidate. The city in 2022 established district boundaries in 2022.
Districts 1 and 3 were up for election for the first time in 2022. Residents voted for two incumbents: Councilmember Gary Gardner to represent District 1 and Mayor Pro Tem Jan Pye to represent District 3. Now Districts 2 and 4 are up for election.
Gary Carroll, Thomas Moen, Charles Lantz and Dirk Voss are all seeking the District 4 seat.
Daniel Pitts is challenging Councilmember Roger Nuñez for District 2.
Uken Report submitted identical questions to each candidate. The responses we received are published in the politics section of this website.
