Cathedral City City Council Prepares to Discuss Hiring New Manager
CATHEDRAL CITY — The stage is being set for the City Council on Tuesday to hire and name a new city manager. The Council is looking to fill the position left vacant when Charlie McClendon retired Sep. 10, 2025.
After 11 years as City Manager, McClendon retired leaving behind a legacy of success.
The City Council is looking to build on that legacy as the city continues to grow.
“Much remains to be done,” McClendon said at the time of his departure. “I am confident that with the City Council’s leadership and the highly professional departmental management team that is in place, even greater things can be accomplished.”
To that end, the City Council will meet in special session at 8.m. today Tuesday, Jan. 20 in the lobby of the Cimarron Golf Resort, 67603 30th Ave., in the community.
The City Council is scheduled to meet in closed session for the sole purpose of discussing McClendon’s successor. The agenda item has no recommendation.
Anne Ambrose, the assistant city manager, has been performing her duties and serving as Interim City Manager during the city’s search for a full-time, permanent city manager. Ambrose has said from the outset that she would not apply for the full-time position.
