Jeffrey Bernstein, a Palm Springs City Council hopeful, keeps his word

PALM SPRINGS — When Jeffrey Bernstein, a City Council hopeful to represent District 2, announced he would hold his first District meeting via Zoom, some constituents on social media balked. They begged for an in-person meeting instead.

Bernstein vowed he would do just that. And he is.

On Tuesday, June 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Bernstein will hold an in-person meeting at the Vista del Monte Elementary School Library, 2744 N Vía Miraleste.

From the day he first announced his bid for the seat, which Dennis Woods now holds, Bernstein committed to holding regular meetings to hear directly from his constituents.

“As a longtime resident of District 2, I am committed to regular (monthly) meetings with District 2 residents, local businesses, non-profits, and neighborhood organizations so I can be the advocate on the Council that they deserve,” Bernstein said at the time of his announcement. “From public safety to housing and homelessness, and many other important issues, I will work hard to do what is best for our city and those who work and live in District 2.”

The June 28 meeting is open to all residents of District 2. Bernstein will introduce himself and share some thoughts he has for the future of Palm Springs.

“The primary focus of the meetings, however, will be to hear from you,” he said in the announcement. “I want you to share your ideas. This will help me to ensure that my final platform is reflective of the needs of our district and represents the residents of District 2.”

Woods has not said whether he will seek re-election. He has not returned Uken Report’s phone messages or email requests for comment.

The official nomination period begins Monday, July 18, 2022, and ends Friday, Aug. 12, 2022.

The next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, to elect Councilmembers representing Districts 1, 2, and 3, to four-year terms.

As this event is being held in person at a public school, every attendee will be required to register.  You may do so here.
