Indio Police Department to Add 12 New Police Officers

INDIO — The largest community in the Coachella Valley has bolstered its commitment to public safety by adding 12 new police officers by the end of this fiscal year (June 30th), marking a significant investment in the Indio Police Department and community.

This expansion highlights the City’s focus on recruitment success and the importance of hiring local officers who understand and are deeply connected to the community, according to a news release.

“Public safety is our top priority, and the addition of 12 new police officers reflects the City’s commitment to a strong and effective Indio Police Department,” Mayor Glenn Miller said in a statement. “I applaud the Chief and all those working to recruit these outstanding men and women who put their lives on the line to keep us safe and protected.’”

A key component of IPD’s recruitment strategy has been prioritizing local hires. Officers from Indio and the surrounding region bring a unique advantage—they are deeply invested in the well-being of their hometown, have an inherent understanding of the community’s needs, and are already familiar with community, making them well-positioned for long-term service in the department.

“I am very proud of Chief Tully and our Department personnel who have worked so hard to recruit these additional police officers during this fiscal year,” City Manager Bryan Montgomery said in a statement. “As the Indio Police Department continues to grow and enhance its capacity, we remain devoted to safeguarding our community and deeply appreciate the ongoing support from our residents.’”

As Indio continues to grow, ensuring a well-staffed and highly trained police force remains a top priority. With this latest recruitment, the City of Indio and Indio Police Department are making tangible strides toward enhancing public safety, strengthening community relationships, and building a department that reflects the values and diversity of Indio.
