Coachella Man Arrested for Attempted Rape

PALM SPRINGS — A 34-year-old Coachella man was arrested Sunday for attempted rape, sexual battery and home invasion, according to Palm Springs police.

Javier Hernandez of Coachella was taken into custody.

It all started Sunday, April 23, just before 4:20 a.m. when the Palm Springs Police Department received a call from a woman, reporting that a man had broken into her apartment, on the 700 block of Los Felices Circle North and attempted to sexually assault her.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered the suspect entered an open window and tried to assault the victim, who was sleeping. The victim was able to fight off the suspect, who returned and broke in through a closed window. The victim was again able to fight off the suspect, who then ran away.

Officers tracked down the suspect a short time later.
