Robbery arrest stems from incident in Bagdouma Park in Coachella

COACHELLA — A 22-year-old Coachella man was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and committing a felony while on bail, according to Sgt. David Aldrich.

On Jan. 12, Thermal Station patrol units responded to Bagdouma Park in the city of Coachella regarding a robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation revealed a Hispanic male adult approached a 17-year-old juvenile in the park and demanded his cellphone at gunpoint. The juvenile refused to give his cellphone to the suspect, so the suspect fired one round into the ground.

The suspect fled the area with the victim’s cellphone and was not located. The juvenile was not injured during the robbery, and no other injuries were reported due to the gun being fired into the ground. The Thermal Station Special Investigations Unit assumed the investigation.

During the investigation, the suspect was positively identified as Miguel Navarro, a resident of Coachella.

On Feb. 23, the Fugitives & Warrants Enforcement Team located Navarro, in the 50100 block of Balboa Street, in the city of Coachella. While attempting to apprehend Navarro, he fled from a vehicle. A short foot pursuit ensued, and Navarro was apprehended without further incident.

A search warrant was served in the 50100 block of Balboa Street, in the city of Coachella, by the Fugitives & Warrants Enforcement Team.
