Trustees have Approved Timeline for COD President Search

PALM DESERT – A permanent College of the Desert President could be named in February if all goes according to the comprehensive Search Timeline, Trustees unanimously approved Friday.

In June 2023, The Desert Community College District Board of Trustees voted 5-0 to offer Laura Hope, current Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Institutional Effectiveness at Chaffey Community College District, the position of Interim Superintendent/President of College of the Desert.

Hope “intends to apply for the permanent position,” Nicholas Robles, Public Information Officer, told Uken Report.

Three to five candidates will be interviewed in person the week of Feb. 3, according to the timeline. The board will interview candidates and finalists; they will also appear in p public forums.

The College of the Desert Board of Trustees has hired AGB Search, LLC. (AGB) to provide consultant support to facilitate the search and selection process for the hiring of the next Superintendent/President for the District. An important element that helps set the foundation of the process includes a comprehensive Search Timeline.

AGB recommended the attached proposed Superintendent/President timeline for approval, which the board approved, District staff and AGB recognize the importance of maintaining flexibility in scheduling some of the steps of the recruitment process to meet the District’s operational need and respond to candidate and committee availability. Should the recruitment process not conclude on the presented end date, a modified schedule will be presented to the Board for approval.
