Presidential Search Forum Set for Thursday

PALM DESERT — Members of the public will have an opportunity to hear directly from the finalists selected to lead College of the Desert as Superintendent/President College at a Presidential Search Forum on Thursday, May 1  at 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

The Forum will be held in-person at College of the Desert Palm Desert Campus in the Pollock Theatre or Live on YouTube.  The Board of Trustees are scheduled to interview the candidates the next day.

Carlos Maldonado, who serves as parliamentarian for the Board of Trustees, will serve as moderator. He currently serves as Interim Dean of Enrollment Services at COD. Nicholas Robles, Interim Public Information Officer & Interim Director of Educational Partnerships, said he did not know how or who selected Maldonado.

The public will hear from College of the Desert’s four Superintendent/President finalists in a public forum. Each finalist, appearing in an order determined by a random selection process will provide a personal introduction followed by a 10-minute oral presentation. Candidates will respond to a prompt which was provided to all finalists in advance.

Following the presentations, a 30-minute moderated Q&A session will take place. The questions have been curated from those submitted by the public, collected prior to the event. No questions will be asked from the audience during the time of the forum.

The finalist will appear in the following order:

  • Dr. Kimberlee S. Messina, President – Spokane Falls Community College
  • Dr. Don Moya-Miller, Vice President/Assistant Superintendent – Rio Hondo College
  • Val Martinez Garcia, Acting Superintendent/President – College of the Desert
  • Dr. Monica Chahal, Interim President – Clovis Community College
