Convocation at CSUSB Palm Desert Campus will welcome students and community to new academic year

PALM DESERT — The Cal State San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus will host its 10th Annual Student Convocation in its Indian Wells Theater on Tuesday, Aug. 22, to welcome students, faculty, staff, distinguished members of the campus administration and friends of the Palm Desert Campus to the 2023-24 academic year.

With more than 2,200 students, it is the Coachella Valley’s four-year public university and plays a crucial role in educating and training the region’s growing population.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a welcome by Avi Rodriguez, interim assistant dean of student engagement, and a land acknowledgement by Diego Rendon, vice president of Associated Students Inc. at the Palm Desert Campus.

Event speakers include CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales; Rafik Mohamed, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs; Paz Olivérez, vice president for Student Affairs; Daria Graham, associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students; Edna Martinez, associate vice president and administrator in charge at the Palm Desert Campus; and PDC alumna, Renata Flores.

A dinner for all attendees will follow the ceremony in the courtyard of the Palm Desert Health Sciences Building and will include lawn games, a photo booth and DJs from Paws Radio, the campus radio station.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus homepage.

The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees, a doctorate in educational leadership, and teaching credentials and certificates.
