Coachella Valley Water Official Pleads Guilty to DUI

INDIO — Coachella Valley Water District Board Vice President Cástulo Estrada Real pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content of .08 or higher, according to the District Attorney’s spokesperson.

Real pleaded guilty was sentenced to 36 months’ probation. He pleaded guilty to count two and was sentenced to 52 days custody with four days credit for time served with the remaining 48 to be served in a Riverside County Sheriff’s Office work release program.

The incident happened in January 2023.

The objective of the Part-Time Work Release Program is to offer an alternative in lieu of jail time.

Real will be required to work a minimum of one to two days a week at an assigned job site. As all inmates in the program, Real must work 8 to 10 hours a day in lieu of 1-day of sentence.
