INDIAN WELLS – This desert resort community, home to about 5,400 people, has been attracting coveted national press attention that some other communities can only dream about.

Indian Wells, which hosts the sixth-largest tennis tournament in the world, currently known as the BNP Paribas Open, made headlines in Forbes on Jan. 6 as a “Trendy Coachella Destination with a Delano Hotel and Residences.”

The $85 million project, which is set to open in the desert in 2020, will include 154 hotel rooms and 59 Delano-branded residential condominium units.

“With an increase of younger millennial consumers, SBE is hoping its $85 million project will create a wave of new energy for the city and offer new options for travelers,” Jim Dobson wrote in the Forbes article.

“I have been a huge fan of Miami’s legendary Delano Hotel in South Beach with its famed all white billowing curtains and contemporary Philippe Starck artsy décor,” Dobson also wrote. “There is always a theatricality with Delano where every customer feels like they are part of an extravagant private fashion show. Adding this new energy to the Coachella Valley will instantly create the ultimate retreat.”

The desert project has also appeared on valuable media real estate in Travel Weekly and the New York Times Post.

The national attention is not lost on locals.

“For decades Indian Wells has been a world-renowned vacation destination,” Indian Wells City Councilmember Dana Reed told Uken Report. “Publicity like this shows everyone we are not resting on our laurels. We are not your grandfather’s Indian Wells anymore.”

SBE, a leading international hospitality group that develops manages and operates award-winning global hospitality brands, in October announced a partnership with investment and development company TMC Group and Managing Partner Philip Bates to bring the iconic Delano brand to California’s sought-after desert oasis,

Indian Wells. Delano Hotel & Residences Indian Wells mark the first iteration for the brand in California, and the first Delano with a residential component in the USA.

“Bringing the iconic Delano brand, along with SBE and its entire platform, to this magnificent site in Indian Wells will transform and energize the entire Coachella Valley,” said Philip Bates, Managing Partner, TMC Group.  “Delano Indian Wells is going to break the mold, redefining and elevating how people stay, eat and are entertained in the Coachella Valley.”

Delano Hotel & Residences, Indian Wells will also feature premier culinary offerings with Katsuya, a culinary concept by SBE and celebrity Chef Katsuya Uechi. The restaurant will bring signature favorites along with new items created especially for the desert location. For an indulgent escape, SBE will also introduce their iconic SKYBAR concept to Indian Wells, a day-to-night pool deck showcasing the exclusive and chic atmosphere the brand is known for.

As with every SBE hotel, Delano’s recognizable design point-of-view will be visible throughout the property with sophistication and ease blending with timeless design.
