Desert Stonewall Democrats Strongly Support Proposition 50
PALM SPRINGS — Desert Stonewall Democrats has announced its “strong endorsement” of California Proposition 50 in the upcoming Nov. 4 Special Election, according to Dale Jenkins, communications chair.
This ballot measure, when approved by the voters, will temporarily override the state’s independent redistricting commission’s current congressional maps and replace them with revised ones. This is a necessary response to the extreme partisan gerrymandering efforts by Republican legislatures in other states including Texas, according to Jenkins.
The current administration and the Republican congress have already restricted or eliminated the rights of all Californians and especially those of the LGBTQ + community, Jenkins said in a news release. Eliminating all Federal HIV prevention programs and cruelly ending the National Suicide Hotline for LGBTQ+ youth, are just two examples.
Proposition 50 ensures that the 2026 mid-term, 2028 and 2030 elections are conducted on a level playing field without an unfair advantage for Republicans. The yes on prop 50 coalition includes: the Riverside County Democratic Party, President Barack Obama, Senator Alex Padilla, Senator Adam Schiff and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi among many other prominent Democrats and Independents.
Desert Stonewall Democrats is the Coachella Valley’s premier Democratic political voice for the LGBTQ+ community.
