Search for New CEO Could Take About 14 Weeks

PALM SPRINGS — The search for a new CEO at Desert Healthcare District and Foundation is underway following the board of directors’ decision to hire Bob Murray and Associates at an all-inclusive fee of $36,000.

The CEO search comes on the heels of the board voting unanimously to terminate the contract of former CEO Chris Christensen.

Valerie Phillips, President, Owner and Executive Recruiter, with Bob Murray & Associates conducted the past CEO recruitment process (November 2023). The firm did an “excellent job” working with the Board, is familiar with the process, and is available to immediately start the process, according to Jeffrey Scott, general counsel for the DHCD.

The process, expected to take about 14 weeks, will include virtual meetings with key players such as board members, department heads) and community groups to help develop a candidate profile.

The recruiter suggests advertising the position in Chief Executive Officer-specific advertising sources such as:

  • California Association of Councils of Government
  • Municipal Management Association of Northern California
  • California Special Districts Association
  • National Association of County Human Services Administrators
  • California Special Districts Association
  • National Association of County & City Health Officials

The idea is to expand the search beyond the local newspaper to ensure a national search.

The district already has one candidate — former DHCD Greg Rodriguez.

A check of the Bob Murray  Associates website this morning shows that “Details regarding this recruitment will be available within 2-3 weeks.”

The filing deadline is Aug. 16,
