Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Jim Henson Announces Retirement
DESERT HOT SPRINGS —Police Chief Jim Henson has announced his retirement from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department effective Feb. 28 after more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, with more than 20 of them with the City of Desert Hot Springs.
Chief Henson started with the City of Desert Hot Springs in 2005 as a Patrol Officer and worked through the ranks of the department holding the positions of Detective, Sergeant, Commander, Deputy Chief and finally Police Chief following his appointment to the position in 2019.
“Serving the citizens of Desert Hot Springs has been the honor of my career,” Chief Henson said in a statement. “I am also truly inspired by the men and women of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, who exemplify the very best in law enforcement. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with an outstanding team and to have contributed to the safety and well-being of our community over the past 20 years. As I retire, I look forward to the next chapter in my life with pride in what we have accomplished together.”
Throughout his tenure, Chief Henson spearheaded numerous initiatives that have strengthened and enhanced public safety in the City. Under his leadership, the department embraced innovative strategies in crime prevention and reduction, including the implementation of new technology and infrastructure upgrades, according to a news release.
“I want to congratulate Chief Henson on his well-deserved retirement” Mayor Scott Matas said in a statement. “Chief Henson has been an outstanding public servant for over 20 years in the City of Desert Hot Springs. His dedication and contributions to the city have been invaluable. He will be missed!”
Chief Henson’s retirement will be effective February 28, 2025. Deputy Chief Steve Shaw will assume the position of Interim Chief of Police upon Chief Henson’s retirement to ensure a seamless transition.
