Palm Springs Cultural Center Brings New Certified Farmers Market to  Desert Hot Springs

DESERT HOT SPRINGS The Palm Springs Cultural Center is launching a new Certified Farmers Market to expand access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food options for residents of Desert Hot Springs. The market will debut on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 66120 Pierson Boulevard, with a community ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m.

The new market aims to bring locally grown produce, pantry staples, and artisan foods directly to the community — supporting households that have historically faced limited access to fresh food options, including low-income families, seniors, and SNAP/CalFresh recipients.

“Thank you to our sponsors, the Barker Foundation and the City of Desert Hot Springs, for recognizing the need and stepping forward to support the project. Their partnership reinforces the power of community-driven solutions and ensures that this market takes root where it’s needed most,” said Michael C. Green, Executive Director of the Palm Springs Cultural Center.

The market will accept EBT/SNAP, offer SNAP incentive programs when available, and provide resources to help families and seniors stretch their food budgets and access nutritious meals.

“I have deep roots in Desert Hot Springs — I was born and raised here — and opening this market has long been a dream of mine,” said Lindsay Jordan, Farmers Market Manager.

City leadership emphasized the importance of bringing fresh food directly into the heart of the community.

“This certified farmers’ market is more than a place to buy produce — it’s an investment in the health and well-being of our community. Families in Desert Hot Springs deserve access to fresh, local, and affordable food close to home, and now they’ll have it right here on The BLVD. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this possible, and I look forward to seeing our residents come together to support our local farmers and enjoy this new resource in the heart of our city,” said Desert Hot Springs Mayor Scott Matas.

As part of the opening celebration, the Palm Springs Cultural Center will also host a public book giveaway featuring “Bite by Bite: Nourishments and Jamborees” by Aimee Nezhukumatathil, funded through the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program.
