“At College of the Desert, we know that access to health care is essential for student success, especially for those from underserved communities where medical services aren’t always easy to get,” Interim Dean of Student Support Services Carlos Maldonado said in a statement. “By partnering with DAP Health to offer free, stigma-free sexual wellness services on campus, we’re making sure students have the support they need to take care of their health without worrying about cost. For many of our students, this isn’t just about convenience — it’s about having access to care that can impact their ability to stay in school and thrive. We’re proud to bring these vital services to the Palm Desert campus every Monday because when students have what they need to be healthy, they have a better chance of reaching their goals.”
“I’m excited to increase access to STI testing and treatment, birth control — including free emergency contraception — and HIV prevention in the form of PEP and PrEP at COD,” DAP Health Physician Assistant Madeleine Newhouse, who will oversee the Monday pop-up clinic, said in a statement. “These services are so important to students, especially when delivered at no cost. I hope word about our presence on campus spreads far and wide so that DAP Health can have a positive impact on the sexual and reproductive well-being of these young adults.”
Each Monday, the clinic at COD will offer 12 half-hour appointments, for enrolled students only.
As always, anyone is welcome to access DAP Health’s free sexual wellness services at all three of its other locations: The Orange Clinic on its Sunrise campus at 1695 North Sunrise Way in Palm Springs, Stonewall Medical Center at 68-555 Ramon Road in Cathedral City, and its sexual wellness clinic in Indio at 81-719 Dr. Carreon Blvd., Suite D1.
