INDIO — Jeff Gonzalez, a candidate for State Assembly District 36. this past week used his campaign to collect socks for souls.

“I encouraged my interns to collect socks for less fortunate students,” Gonzalez told Uken Report. “So far, they’ve collected 10,284 pairs of socks (which equals) 10,284 souls impacted.”

Gonzaez celebrated Valentine’s Day organizing a “Socks for Souls” drive in his local community, changing the way that candidates campaign in communities.

“We collected socks, which will be distributed to thousands of underprivileged kids in the 36th Assembly District,” Gonzalez said. “Service to one’s community, like service to one’s country is close to my heart. I am grateful that I was able to spend the day giving back to my neighbors.”

Socks are the No. 1 requested item in homeless shelters. For the millions of people living homeless, a clean pair of socks is often described as “the gift of humanity,” according to Hanes, America’s No. 1 basic apparel, underwear and sock brand.

“Imagine if politicians competed on who could impact with love the most,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez has earned the endorsement of Sheriff Chad Bianco and endorsed by the East Valley Republican Women Patriots, one of the largest women’s Republican clubs in the United States.

Gonzalez is seeking the seat Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia now holds. Garcia is not seeking reelection.

District 36 encompasses the counties of San Bernardino, Riverside, and Imperial Valley. Gonzalez is one of seven people vying for the seat.

The top two vote-getters regardless of party affiliation will compete in the general election in November.
