I-10 Desert Rehabilitation Work for Week of Dec. 11

For the week of Dec. 11 during the I-10 Desert Rehabilitation work nightly single lane closures are scheduled along eastbound I-10 Sunday, Dec. 10 through Thursday, Dec. 14, from 7 p.m. – 5 a.m., for crews to safely perform the eastbound traffic switch and reconfigure eastbound lanes.

During this traffic switch please watch for crews working throughout the project and follow all temporary traffic signs.

Starting Sunday Dec. 10, at 5 p.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m., the eastbound Cactus City Rest Area will be fully closed while crews switch eastbound traffic onto newly paved lanes.

The I-10 Desert Rehabilitation Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
