In-custody death discovered during security check

RIVERSIDE — For the third time in less than two months, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an in-custody death at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

At 12:32 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Robert Presley Detention Center were conducting a security check of a housing unit and found an unresponsive male inmate in a cell.

Custody staff and jail medical staff immediately administered life-saving measures. American Medical Response and Riverside Fire personnel responded and assumed life-saving measures, according to a news release.

The male inmate was transported to a local hospital for further medical treatment. Despite medical intervention efforts, the male inmate was pronounced deceased on Dec. 19. The decedent was a registered organ donor and remains at the hospital pending completion of the organ donor process.

An investigation into this incident will be conducted by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. There are no signs of foul play and due to the ongoing status of the investigation, no further information is available at this time, according to the release. A day before this most recent death, on Monday, Dec. 12, about 1:53 a.m., deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department-Robert Presley Detention Center, responded to the cell of an unresponsive male inmate, according to a news release.

Custody staff and jail medical staff immediately administered life-saving measures, according to a news release. Riverside Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel responded to the scene and continued life-saving measures. Despite efforts, paramedics from Riverside Fire Department pronounced the male inmate deceased at 2:33 a.m.

On Sunday, Nov. 20 at 3:37 p.m. deputies assigned to the Robert Presley Detention Center, located in the 4000 block of Orange Street in Riverside, were called to the cell of an unresponsive female inmate. There were no signs of foul play.
