Traffic Signal Changes Ahead for Indio — Temporarily

INDIO – The City of Indio advises residents and travelers of temporary traffic signal changes scheduled for this week related to the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG)’s CV Sync project.

From 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., the following intersections will be flashing red:

  • Tuesday, October 17: Jefferson Street and Fred Waring Drive
  • Wednesday, October 18: Monroe Street and Fred Waring Drive

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution and expect delays when travelling through these intersections during the affected hours. To minimize delays, it is recommended for travelers to use alternative routes or adjust commutes accordingly.

CV Sync is an innovative approach to improving how residents and visitors travel in the Coachella Valley, according to CVAG. The project consists of upgrading existing traffic signal controllers and revolutionizing the way traffic is managed by using the latest off-the-shelf technologies to coordinate traffic on corridors in the Coachella Valley.

CV Sync will establish a framework for future “smart region” by installing highly technical hardware and software systems into a world-class, regional network. CV Sync will have technology that allows all cities to communicate and coordinate in real-time to manage traffic flow, which will be  especially useful for the large events that draw hundreds of thousands of tourists to the Coachella Valley. This project will also deploy fiber-optic broadband technology throughout the Coachella Valley, which can help to unlock federal and state funding opportunities. CV Sync also includes improvement communication to motorists.
