Indio City Council to Honor Allison Cyr

City leaders honor LBJ teacher Allison Cyr with a Proclamation

INDIO – In recognition of her achievements in and out of the classroom, the city of Indio will honor Lyndon B. Johnson third-grade teacher Allison Cyr at its next Council Meeting.

Cyr was named one of four Riverside County Office of Education Teachers of the Year, and just learned she was selected to be one of only five teachers in the entire state to be named a California Teacher of the Year for 2020.

“We are so proud of Allison and her commitment to give back to her students and the entire community,” Indio Mayor Glenn Miller. said in a prepared statement  “She is such an incredible example to us all.”

Cyr grew up in Indio, and has taught at Indio’s Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary School for seven years.  A giver in so many ways, Cyr plans to use her newfound recognition “To help create a platform where students and teachers know that they are appreciated. To help create a platform where equity is at the forefront.  We all need something to help us achieve our potential but that need is different for everyone. The goal is to make every day better than the day before.”

As City Council Chambers are not open to the public at this time, Indio’s City Council will present Cyr with a Proclamation at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 via Zoom.  The public is welcome to watch the recognition live via the City’s website or Facebook page.
