Reymundo ‘Rey’ Trejo to take the helm of Capital Improvement projects, conservation and other initiatives for water authority

INDIO – Indio Water Authority (IWA) Interim General Manager Reymundo Trejo, P.E., has been named the Water Authority’s new General Manager, effective Dec. 18, according to a city announcement.

Trejo joined the city of Indio as the Assistant General Manager in January 2020, and was named Interim GM in October 2021, following the retirement of the previous General Manager.

“I’m excited to continue my journey with this team of talented professionals, where I will apply my more than 25 years of water industry experience and ensure a safe and sustainable water resources portfolio to support the growth of the city of Indio,” Trejo said in a prepared statement.

Indio Water Authority serves the largest city in the Coachella Valley, with approximately 24,000 residential and commercial customers.

Trejo’s expanded capacity includes leading the development of a multimillion-dollar Chromium-6 treatment program, managing infrastructure rehabilitation, water treatment, and stewarding the agency’s commitment to responsible water usage in a time of sustained statewide drought.  Trejo’s bilingual skills also serve the community during outreach engagements, including public messaging and radio appearances on the “La Poderosa” Spanish radio show.

In addition to his role as General Manager, Trejo serves as the City’s representative on the Imperial Irrigation District’s Energy Consumers Advisory Committee (ECAC), addressing the growing power-energy requirements of the Coachella Valley.  Trejo also serves on the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) for the East Valley Reclamation Authority (EVRA), exploring the implementation of recycled water program as a long-term water supply resource for the city of Indio.

Trejo is a licensed civil engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Southern California.  During his career, Trejo has served as Chief Engineer, Executive Director, Assistant General Manager, Senior Manager and Civil Engineer at public agencies such as the Metropolitan Water District, City of Long Beach Water Department, and the City of Ontario.

In addition, Trejo held executive positions in the private sector for almost seven years at two engineering consulting firms – AECOM & SAFNA.
