INDIO – Summer in the Coachella Valley is synonymous with road construction, pavement projects, asphalt overlays and more. The snowbirds are long gone leaving fewer travelers on the road making it an ideal time for road construction.

To that end, the city of Indio will lay new asphalt on four streets in the city from Tuesday, July 14, 2020 to Friday, July 24, 2020. Work will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents and motorists should expect minimal travel delays, are urged to use alternate routes, and should observe all construction signs and obey road crews.  Access for emergency vehicles will not be impacted.

The project is part of the city’s street maintenance program to restore the appearance of the street pavement, while extending its service life and minimizing further deterioration. The work involves grinding the top surface of the street and overlaying it with new asphalt, as well as striping the new asphalt surface. The project includes the following streets:

  • Hoover Street (Monroe Street to Fred Waring Drive)
  • Fred Waring Drive (Monroe Street to Indio Boulevard)
  • Park Avenue (Miles Avenue to Bliss Avenue)
  •  Shadow Palm Avenue (Aladdin Street to Monroe Street.)

Residents and businesses in work areas will receive notice with detailed instructions for the scheduled pavement work.  “NO PARKING” signs will also be posted 72 hours in advance of scheduled work.  Although no street parking will be permitted, parking will be available within a reasonable distance.

The gas tax generates funds for our transportation infrastructure through increased gasoline taxes and annual vehicle fees, and will fund the entire cost of this $426,000 repaving project.
