Country Music Award Winner Jimmie Allen Will Open Toby Keith’s ‘Country Comes to Town’ Tour at Coachella Crossroads on May 15
COACHELLA — Jimmie Allen, the Academy of Country Music Awards New Male Artist of the Year of 2021, will be the opening act for the upcoming Toby Keith “Country Comes to Town” tour to be held at Coachella Crossroads in Coachella on Saturday, May 15.
This will be the first-ever music act to perform at this new entertainment venue. Allen will open the show at 7:30 PM. Tickets for this performance are selling quickly.
Allen became the first black solo performer to win New Male Artist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards (at which he also performed a duet with Brad Paisley). He beat out Travis Denning, HARDY, Cody Johnson, and Parker McCollum for new male artist of the year award. His debut album, Mercury Lane, was issued in October 2018. His hugely popular song and first official single “Best Shot” was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in November 2018, making him the firstb lack artist to send his debut single to the top of that chart. The week of its release, it was the second most-added song to country music radio playlists and has made the Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay, and Billboard Hot 100 charts.
His album Mercury Lane is a cutting-edge mix of country, rock, R&B, and pop produced by Ash Bowers and Eric Torres. The project received critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone raving that it “challenges the narrowly defined model of what constitutes a next big thing in country music” and The New York Times hailing it one of 2018’s strongest, calling it a “conventional country album, filled with songs about the small details.” Mercury Lane’s second single, “Make Me Want To,” also became a Number One hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
His latest project, Bettie James, combines his deep love of family and genre-spanning taste in music. The star-studded collaboration project is a seven-track EP – released July 2020 – that features a wide array of music hit makers: Brad Paisley, Charley Pride, Darius Rucker, Mickey Guyton, Nelly, Cyrus, The Oak Ridge Boys, Rita Wilson, Tauren
Wells, and Tim McGraw.
“We are thrilled to present this concert featuring Toby Keith and Jimmie Allen at the new the Coachella Crossroads,” said Chairman Darrell Mike of The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. “Keith and Allen are sure to wow the Coachella Valley at our exciting new open-air concert venue.”
After Jimmie Allen opens the concert, Toby Keith will take to the stage. Keith is one of the modern era’s most complete self-directed hit makers. A singer, songwriter, and musician, Keith has released 19 studio albums, two Christmas albums, and five compilation albums with total worldwide sales of more than 40 million albums.
