Jeff Gonzalez Among New Lawmakers Sworn into Office in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO — Surrounded by his family, Jeff Gonzalez of Indio, was among the 23 new members sworn into office in the state Assembly on Monday.
“I felt honored to represent my district, honored to serve my community,” Gonzalez told Uken Report? “Most importantly, humbled to share this moment with my family.
Two of his sons, Zack and Mike, shared the honor of pinning their father during the swearing-in ceremony.
Despite District 36 being considered a “safe seat,” Gonzalez handily won the seat Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia vacated when he chose not to seek re-election. District 36 encompasses the counties of San Bernardino, Riverside, and Imperial Valley.
It was a festive day with photos and words of congratulations. State officials including Gov. Gavin Newsom and state Supreme Court Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero joined the ceremony.
Now, the real work begins as a special legislative session is designed to prepare California to “defend its values” from the incoming Trump administration.
Two days after Donald J. Trump was elected president, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation convening a special session of the California Legislature to safeguard California values and fundamental rights in the face of an incoming Trump administration. The special session will focus on bolstering California legal resources to protect civil rights, reproductive freedom, climate action, and immigrant families.
