Joe Jackson Among Those Seeking District 4 Seat
PALM SPRINGS — Joe Jackson, 66, a retired minister is among those seeking the District 4 seat in the Nov. 5 election.
UR: What motivated you to run?
Joe Jackson: Serving my community is who I am. There are many important issues facing Palm Springs now, and I believe I can best represent the voters of District 4 in making those decisions.
UR: How long have you lived in Palm Springs?
Joe Jackson: I have been a property owner since 2000, and a full-time resident since 2012, always living is what is now District 4.
UR: What is your #1 priority?
Joe Jackson: Public safety is the first priority of municipal government; without that, nothing else works. Supporting our excellent Fire and Police Departments is number one.
UR: What makes you the better candidate?
Joe Jackson: My wide experience (city volunteer, city commission, non-profit boards, neighborhood leader, and water company officer). I have a 12-year deep connection to District 4 and bring a no-nonsense approach to city government.
UR: Do you see yourself as a team player or an individualist?
Joe Jackson: When faced with a difficult decision or dispute, I am the person who can bring mutual understanding and consensus to the group. But I can also be a tenacious person who will fight for what I believe is best.
UR: How do you deal with conflict?
Joe Jackson: I name the conflict and confront it, in a diplomatic way. Once, as a new employee, I was called out by the CEO—in a written memo– as having acted improperly on a project. That information was incorrect. Rather than reply in writing electronically or by telephone, I went directly to the CEO’s office and addressed the accusation in a direct, calm, and firm way. The problem was resolved.
UR: Does PS need to change the way it does business or image? If so, how?
Joe Jackson: PS is a great city and getting better in many ways. We can increase our housing stock for mid-level earners, improve the city & business relationships beyond the downtown core, and continue to make progress for unhoused individuals. I want PS to be a city for everyone and I can help make that happen.
