Kenneth Snell Faces Two Opponents in Bid for Area 2 Seat on COD Board of Trustees
Kenneth Snell is facing both incumbent Bea Gonzalez and Mary Jane Sanchez for the Area 2 seat on the Board of Trustees for College of the Desert in the Nov. 5 election.
Trustee Area 2 includes Desert Hot Springs, Thousand Palms, Sky Valley, Indio Hills, Desert Center, Sun City, Cactus Summit and a portion of Palm Desert.
Uken Report sent all candidates identical questions with identical deadlines. Today, we will publish the responses we received for Area 2. Gonzalez did not participate.
Following are the responses from Kennth Snell.
UR: Age and occupation
Snell: 58. Retired teacher
UR: Who or what motivated you to run for the COD Board of Trustees?
Snell: To bring the concept of equal opportunity back to higher education. The Marxist concepts of Diversity Equity Inclusion have clearly failed.
UR: Do you unconditionally support a West Valley Camus in Palm Springs? Why or why not?
Snell: I do support a West Valley Campus, in principle. It has been twenty years since the first bond was passed by voters to do so and is long overdue. Unfortunately, the project has been delayed until such a time that Californians are fleeing the disastrous leadership of the one-party state in record numbers. Those that do remain in California are seeking alternatives to “woke” Golden State education, from pre-k through college, in increasing numbers. These factors have contributed to the decline of full-time enrollment and put millions of dollars of funding at risk for COD. It is incumbent upon the board to ensure that any new facilities can be maintained and operated.
UR: Are you prepared to lead COD into the future? How?
Snell: Yes. By advocating for College of the Desert to take a leadership role in education and to push back on the Marxist-driven policies and concepts steeped in DEI, CRT, social justice, restorative justice, equity, et.al.
UR: Are the COD Board’s practices, best practices? How do you know?
Snell: Apparently not, in general and over the long-term, or there would already be a functioning West Valley Campus, the board would not have purchased two properties for that campus, and COD would not be facing budget shortages due to a lack of full-time students.
UR: Are you prepared to select your next long-term Superintendent/President? Why or why not?
Snell: It would be beneficial to find the right Superintendent/President for long-term leadership.
UR: Can your students count on you? Why? Provide an example of when you have stood up for a student?
Snell: Yes. I have stood up for the well-being and safety of all students. I posted this publicly and sent via email on Sept. 28, 2022, pre-retirement: https://kennys.substack.com/p/my-refusal-to-acquiesce-to-the-cultural
