Mazingo from Hemet has received support from one of the largest women’s political action groups in the nation — EMILY’s List, which aims to help elect pro-choice Democratic female candidates to office. It was founded by Ellen Malcolm in 1985. According to the Washington Examiner, Emily’s List is “the nation’s most influential pro-choice political action committee.”

The group’s name is an acronym for “Early Money Is Like Yeast.”

The California Women’s List has also endorsed her. California Women’s List is a Political Action Committee dedicated to fundraising for, supporting, and electing pro-choice, Democratic women to office in California.

Mazingo has also received the endorsement of Anthony Rendon, speaker of the Assembly and the California Democratic Party.

With 147 of 147 precincts reporting in the June 5 Primary, Mazingo rose to the top of a crowded Republican field, garnering more votes than the Republican incumbent, Chad Mayes. Mazingo received 17,017 votes, or 38.70 percent of the votes cast in the June 5 primary. Mayes garnered 14,274 votes, or 32.47 percent of the vote, according to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.

The California Secretary of State website, which includes the portion of the 42nd Assembly District in San Bernardino County, shows the race a little closer. The true tally shows Mazingo received 22,066 total votes, for 35.2 percent while Mayes received 20,760 votes for 33.1 percent.

For more than 15 years, Mazingo, the biracial child of a French Jew father and an Ethiopian and Native American mother, worked as an attorney in the nation’s capital. She practiced family law, will and estate formation. Widowed, she has lived in Hemet since 2012.
