‘No Reportable Action’ on City Manager Position in Cathedral City
CATHEDRAL CITY — The City Council met in closed session Wednesday for the third time in two weeks to discuss hiring a city manager. There was no reportable action.
“The process is continuing,” Mayor Raymond Gregory told Uken Report. “We knew it would take a while.”
Acknowledging the “great deal of public interest in the process,” Gregory said the closed sessions are confidential.
The City Council met twice in closed session last week to interview candidates.
The City Council is clearly doing its due diligence to fill the vacancy created when Charlie McClendon retired. He will be a difficult act to follow. Everyone knew that.
Cathedral City is no longer a drive-through city. It is a destination that is growing and changing. It is home to the award-winning Cathedral City International Hot Air Balloon Festival.
The city has the second largest population, after Indio, of the nine cities in the Coachella Valley. Its population was 51,493 at the 2020 census, a slight increase from 51,200 at the 2010 census.
Meantime, Anne Ambrose, assistant city manager, has been named acting city manager. She has not missed a beat.
The job is no longer listed on the recruiter’s website, which means the City Council likely has a pool of candidates from which to make a selection.
