New Poll Shows Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez Up 6 Points in AD-36 Re-Election Race

A new survey of likely November 2026 voters in California’s 36th Assembly District shows Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez leading Democrat Ida Obeso-Martinez, 46% to 40%.

The lead comes despite Democrats making AD-36 their top spending target in the state, pouring more than $2 million into the race so far in an attempt to buy the seat. But the money isn’t moving the numbers because voters across the district already know who Jeff Gonzalez is: a Marine who fought Gavin Newsom’s IHSS cuts, delivered for veterans and working families, and puts people over politics every day.

“I’m grateful for the support we’re seeing across our district, but there is still a lot of work to do,” said Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez. “I’ve always believed in putting people over politics, and that means showing up, listening to our communities and delivering results regardless of party. That’s exactly what I’ll continue to do for the people of the 36th District.”

Despite the heavy spending against him, the survey found voters view Gonzalez favorably by nearly a three-to-one margin. Among voters who had recently seen, read, or heard something about Gonzalez, 58% said that information made them view him favorably, compared to 21% who said it made them view him less favorably.

The survey, released by Legislative Bipartisan Action PAC and conducted September 19–23 by Guidant Polling & Strategy, surveyed 300 likely general election voters and has a margin of error of ±5.65%.
