PALM SPRINGS — Former City Councilmember and Mayor Christy Holstege, who is pregnant and who twice ran unsuccessfully to represent District 47 in the State Assembly has filed for divorce from Adam M. Gilbert, according to court documents.
“I am not a public figure or serving in a public role anymore and for that reason my personal life is not newsworthy,” Holstege told Uken Report on Thursday morning. “For that reason, I ask that our family’s privacy be respected for our child.”
As recently as the fertility clinic bombing, Holstege, the former mayor of Palm Springs who is 18 weeks pregnant at the time, was playing with her preschooler in their living room that Saturday morning when a blast reverberated through her neighborhood and a plume of smoke began to grow on the horizon, according to the EastIdahoNews.com.
The divorce comes as a shock to some as her husband and son were featured frequently in her campaign literature during both campaigns.
According to court documents, Holstege filed for divorce on June 11. Gilbert was served on June 24.
A review of her Facebook posts indicates she and her son travelled to Hawaii on June 7. She posted photos of herself and her son on June 8, then files for divorce on June 11.
On Father’s Day she posted a greeting to her dad while saying nothing about her own son’s father.
Holstege has always identified as bisexual. In 2013, she helped make Palm Springs history when she and Lisa Middleton, who is transgender, were sworn into office. At that time all five members of the City Council were part of the LGBT community, a first for any city in the country.
Prior to running for State Assembly in 2022 and 2024, Holstege, a civil rights attorney, had served on the Palm Springs City Council since 2017.
