Rep. Ruiz Endorses Holstege for State Assembly

Rep. Raul Ruiz

U.S. States Congressman Raul Ruiz today endorsed Democratic candidate Christy Holstege for State Assembly in California. Representing California’s 25th congressional district, Ruiz’s endorsement marks a major milestone in the hotly contested 47th assembly district.

“Christy is an experienced leader, a public servant, and a dedicated champion on the issues that matter most,” said Representative Ruiz. “She fights for everyone, including underserved communities across our region. As an attorney, former Mayor, and Councilmember, she has helped lead the way to protect access to Medicare for seniors, fought to increase local healthcare services and improve affordability, and deliver results for our communities. She has been and will continue to be a partner to connect local, state, and federal resources to help improve the lives of the people we serve.”

“I am honored to earn the endorsement of our region’s Congressmember, Dr. Raul Ruiz. He has served as a steadfast partner in Washington,” said Holstege. “The challenges we face as a region are not easy ones, and we can’t solve them on our own. We need access to more state and federal resources in order to reach the full potential and promise of our region. I am ready to utilize every resource and relationship — from Sacramento to D.C. — to ensure residents of the desert region have access to a reasonable cost of living, good education, and economic opportunity.  These are the community-based values I will fight for as your next Assemblymember.”

As the Mayor of Palm Springs, Holstege led the city safely through the COVID-19 crisis, passed pro-housing policies to build more housing at all income levels, invested in green energy and worked to protect the environment, supported small businesses and created jobs with living wages, expanded healthcare and social services, and enhanced economic development to build an equitable economy that works for everyone.

Holstege has worked to address the housing crisis by securing more than $10 million in state resources for housing and homelessness services specifically for the city of Palm Springs, spearheaded new programs to house over 200 formerly homeless people, and approved the first affordable housing developments in the city in 10 years, using city land to build housing and investing millions of dollars to create hundreds of new affordable units for seniors, families, and low-income residents.

The 47th Assembly District includes Banning, Beaumont, Calimesa, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Yucaipa, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Yucca Valley, and parts of Redlands, Highland and San Jacinto.
