The County of Riverside and its 9 desert cities will celebrate Travel & Tourism Week from May 7-14. [Opinion]

This region is loaded with destination resorts and our tribal casinos are second to none in California, so it’s a great place to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week. We have the world’s very best golf courses. We are home to a prestigious tennis venue in Indian Wells, equestrian events that bring the equine industry here, and our auto racing at Thermal is another reason guests flock to the desert.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival, Air Museum, Patton Museum, McCallum Theater, even a new ice hockey team. Not to mention the Stagecoach and Coachella music festivals. We also have the famous Tamale Festival, National Date Festival, multiple air shows, and almost a dozen Memorial Day and Veterans Day events.

So, tourism of all types is a multibillion-dollar business in the County and Coachella Valley region. It creates tens of thousands of direct jobs, induced jobs, and bolsters the supply train jobs, too.

We have the greatest restaurants of all types and sizes, wind energy farms, a fantastic airport, and even passenger rail to get you here.

Tourism is a great blessing for so many. We owe much gratitude to the founders of the valley. They have made the region attractive to guests and investors.

Hollywood greats get a lot of credit. They helped put the valley on the map. Their parties and entertainment brought in names like Elvis, Crosby, Sinatra, Autry, to name a few.

Tribal governments have had tremendous success with gaming and casinos too. Our guests can do just about anything here including hitting our No. 1 guest attraction — the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

Enjoy May 7-14 as we celebrate the good things tourism brings to the region and thank those who work in this industry for all they do to make the valley a better place.
