REDLANDS — Rosie Rally Flash Mob International Women’s Day promises to showcase the power, determination, courage, and strength of women.
The Rosie Rally Flash Mob is set for 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 at Smiley Park in Redlands, near Eureka Street and Vine Street. The event is hosted by the Inland Empire Women’s March.
Participants are encouraged to wear denim and a red scarf. They are also encouraged to bring a “We Can (fill in the blank)” sign. Rosie Rally participants are also encouraged to bring a clothing donation.
International Women’s Day, which is celebrated annually on March 8, had its first gathering in in 1911.
The Rosie Rally Flash Mob is being held on a International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
No one government, non-governmental organization, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network or media hub is solely responsible for International Women’s Day. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others. International Women’s Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity.
To prepare for the Rosie Rally Flash mob, here is your chance to watch and learn some of the moves.
International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action — whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century — and continue’s to grow from strength to strength.
Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
The motto behind the Rosie Rally Flash mob is, of course, “We Can Do It.”
