Dr. Raul Ruiz Join Those Who are Calling for Trump’s Impeachment

PALM DESERT –  Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. , CA-36, on Friday called for Donald Trump’s impeachment. Rep. Ilhan Omar took to Twitter earlier this week to say she is drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump.

Omar blamed Trump for his supporters’ attempt at an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. At least five were killed including a Capitol police officer.

According to Reuters, Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives plan to introduce new articles of impeachment against Republican President Donald Trump on Monday, calling for his removal from office.

A copy of the articles circulating among members of Congress charges Trump with “inciting violence against the government of the United States” in a bid to overturn his loss to President-elect Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

The articles also cite Trump’s hour-long phone call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which he asked the state election official to “find” enough votes to overturn that state’s election, which Biden won.

In a prepared statement, Ruiz said, “Two days ago, a rampaging mob incited by the President and determined to overturn our free and fair elections attacked the U.S. Capitol. Not only did they damage the Capitol and everything it stands for, their violent actions caused five deaths, including one police officer who risked his life to protect our sacred Democracy.

“In the words of Republican Senator Mitt Romney, this was ‘an insurrection, incited by the President of the United States.’ The criminals who broke into the Capitol were inspired, directed, and encouraged by Donald Trump and the members of Congress who aid and abet him.

“Donald Trump has once again proven that he is an immediate threat to our Democracy and the Constitution. As a result, I strongly support his immediate impeachment and removal from office. As an elected official, I have sworn an oath to protect our Democracy. I must fulfill that oath by supporting the impeachment of Donald Trump. Although his term is near its end, it is clear that every moment he remains in office, America is at risk. He must be removed immediately.”
