Part of the fundraising effort

PALM DESERT – The Sacred Heart School Children’s Choir is raising money for a musical performance pilgrimage to Italy from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.

“The children ages 8-13 under the direction of Choir Director Elena Pineda will perform at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Basilica di Santo Spirito in Florence and Church of the Pietà, Saint Mary of the Visitation, in Venice,” Kari Middleton-Hendrix, committee chair, said.  “They leave the day after Christmas and will sing during Mass at the Vatican on New Year’s Eve.”

The first fundraising event is 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at the Cork & Fork Wine Bar And Kitchen Restaurant in La Quinta.  Tickets for the Italian dinner with wine is $200 per person.  Fifty-five percent of each ticket will go towards the Choir’s once-in-a-lifetime trip. Checks may be made to Sacred Heart Choir, 43775 Deep Canyon Rd. Palm Desert, said Middleton-Hendrix. You may call her at 760.409.2864 or email her at kari@karimiddleton.com.

The Children’s Choir is also in need of choir robes and will be looking for opportunities to practice their performance.  Community donor sponsorships are available at the $25, $50, $100, and $250 levels, according to Middleton-Hendrix. There is also a GoFundMe page for the choir’s benefit.  As of this writing, they have received $290 from seven donations. The goal is $10,000.
