Palm Springs businesses encouraged to apply for new Commercial Security Camera System Pilot Grant Program

PALM SPRINGS — Some $20,000 in economic development money is being used to create a new Commercial Security Camera System Pilot Grant Program in the community. The program is aimed at helping businesses buy and install security cameras at commercial properties within the city.

The program features a grant of up to $500 per business and will be paid as a reimbursement to business or property owners based on actual costs for purchase and installation of security cameras.

“This is a proactive effort the City Council is taking to help the businesses community improve their security for residents, employees, and visitors,” Communications Director Amy Blaisdell told Uken Report.

Police Chief Andy Chief Mills has indicated that “security camera footage has helped PSPD solve multiple crimes downtown,” Blaisdell said.

The cities of Palm Desert and Port Huron use a similar program, according to Blaisdell.

In April, the Port Huron City Council unanimously awarded low-bidder Evans Consulting Services, of Troy, a contract for $90,883 for the purchase and installation of cameras at nine city parks, according to BlueWaterHealthyLiving.com.

Earlier this year, to best support merchants in Palm Desert, the city created several incentive programs, which are available to all businesses located in Palm Desert. One of them is Unite Palm Desert Security Camera System Grant Program.
