Septuagenarian Pedestrian Killed in Pre-dawn Hours Tuesday

CATHEDRAL CITY — A 74-year-old male from this community was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel following a “possible” traffic collision, Sgt. Mark Robles said in a news release.

The man’s name is not being released pending appropriate identification and notifications by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

At 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, Cathedral City Police officers were dispatched to a possible traffic collision involving a vehicle versus a pedestrian near the intersection of Vista Chino Drive and Avenida Quintana, according to Robles. Upon arrival, it appeared a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes of Vista Chino Drive, east of Avenida Quintana.

At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle or experienced a medical emergency.

Riverside County Coroner responded, final cause of death will be determined following an autopsy. Westbound and eastbound traffic on Vista Chino was closed to motorists for several hours during the investigation. All lanes have now been re-opened.
