Foundation for PSUSD Concludes “Shoes for Students” Campaign

Shoes for Students Campaign Concludes

Tennis shoes galore!

Some 2,500 pairs of Converse tennis shoes valued at $125,000 will be distributed to Palm Springs Unified School students on Saturday, June 4 and Thursday, June 9 through the “Shoes for Students” Campaign.

Distribution locations are:

  • Saturday, June 4 from 8 a.m. to noon – Desert Hot Springs High School, 65850 Pierson Blvd, Desert Hot Springs
  • Thursday, June 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. – PSUSD Service Center, 150 District Center Drive, Palm Springs

The Foundation launched the campaign for new shoes for students in need within the district at the end of 2021. Converse donated $50,000 and the remaining money was raised through a $25,000 match from the Fogelson Family Foundation, significant donations from the Palm Springs Noon and SunUp Rotary Clubs, and 110 individual contributors.

PSUSD Student Services identified the students, and families registered with the student’s name and shoe size. They have been notified to pick up the shoes during these two drive-up events.

About 20 volunteers have worked on sorting and labeling the shoes and several will be on hand to distribute.

The Foundation is more than a grant-making organization.  It aims to improve lives and strengthen the community through furthering public education.  The Foundation believes every student in the Palm Springs Unified School District deserves the opportunity to be prepared — right down to their shoes — and to succeed in either postsecondary education or in a career after high school.

According to its website, the Foundation’s task is bridging gaps and providing the resources to improve student academic preparedness across the education continuum.  Its values: integrity, collaboration, innovation, impact, learning, inclusion, and fun.
