New Stop Signs Installed Near Coachella Valley High School

THERMAL – New stop signs have been installed on Airport Boulevard at the intersection with Calhoun Street in the Thermal area, making the intersection a four-way stop and improving traffic safety near Coachella Valley High School.

The Riverside County Transportation Department installed them last month.

The intersection already had stop signs on both sides of Calhoun Street, but traffic didn’t stop on Airport Boulevard. The road is very busy especially during school drop-off and pick-up times.

Albert P. Keck II, President of Hadley Date Farms, pushed for action, working with Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and the county transportation department, to make the intersection safer.

“This is going to be to the relief of a lot of families,” said Keck. “I am very grateful and delighted that the county put the stop signs in. This is a busy intersection and, twice a day, it makes it very tenuous to get across the intersection. Something needed to be done about it, and I am grateful for Supervisor Perez for staying on it and not letting go. It’s wonderful to get these.”

“We are deeply grateful for this important safety enhancement for our students, families, and staff,” Coachella Valley Unified School District Superintendent Frances Esparza said in a statement. “The installation of the four-way stop at Airport Boulevard and Calhoun Street reflects the county’s commitment to protecting our community, especially during the busiest times of the school day. We appreciate the partnership of Supervisor Perez, the Riverside County

Transportation Department, and community leaders like Mr. Keck for prioritizing the well-being of Coachella Valley High School and the surrounding neighborhood.”

“This is a major safety improvement for students and parents, as well as a safety and logistical improvement for the region’s agricultural industry,” said Supervisor Perez. “I appreciate the help of our Riverside County Transportation Department to make our county roadways safer and to make travel more efficient.”
