Streets Renamed in Honor of Local High School Students

Michael Bray Street
CATHEDRAL CITY — One of the most exciting time-honored traditions in this community is renaming city streets each year to honor two high school students from Cathedral City High School for their academic excellence.
It is a time for the honored students to give themselves a pat on the back. It is a yearlong moment of public pride for parents.
The Annual Student Street Naming Ceremonies this year recognized Lota Uyanwune of Cathedral City High School and Michael Bray of Mt. San Jacinto High School by renaming the street adjacent to their schools for one year, according to Ryan Hunt, Communications & Events Manager.
Cathedral City Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Ross and Councilmembers Raymond Gregory, Ernesto Gutierrez and Rita Lamb, recently unveiled two new street signs to honor two high school students from Cathedral City High School.
Learn a little about each one and honor them as you drive down “their street.”
Lota Uyanwune
Lota Uyanwune is a current senior and newly awarded Golden Lion at Cathedral City High School. Throughout her four years at CCHS, she’s been involved in HEAL (Cathedral City’s health academy), ASB (serving as executive vice president), HOSA-Future Health Professionals (serving as president), the Black Student Union (serving as treasurer), the varsity tennis team (serving as team captain), and the track team. She also served as CCHS’s student board member and volunteered with numerous organizations, such as blood banks, health clinics, and more. Not only does she have stellar extracurriculars, but she has also excelled academically, earning a 4.62 GPA, and has received numerous accolades around CCHS, Coachella Valley, the state of California, and the country. Lota will attend UCLA in the fall, majoring in psychology or psychobiology, on a pre-med track, with the goal of becoming an OB/GYN.
Michael Bray
Michael Bray is Mt. San Jacinto High Schools choice to receive the honor of Most Outstanding Graduate. Michael was a shy, somewhat withdrawn student when he came to MSJ; he is now a student who is comfortable interacting with staff and students alike. Michael is a model student, earning great grades, involving himself in clubs and academic programs, and acting as a responsible citizen. Though Michael came to us severely behind in credits, he is graduating a full year early at the end of his junior year!
Congratulations!
