Cathedral City Police Launch Suicide Investigation into Death of Local Man

CATHEDRAAL CITY — A suicide investigation is underway following the death of a 38-year-old local man at 6:33 a.m. on Feb. 13  at Buddy Rogers Avenue and Monty Hall Drive, according to Sgt. Rick Osborne.

Cathedral City Police received a report of a suicidal person in the area of Napa Auto Parts, located at 68733 East Palm Canyon Drive, in Cathedral City. The initial reporting party requested officers check the person’s welfare., according to    Osborne. While Officers were enroute, the suicidal person, Enrique Gonzalez called Cathedral City Police himself.

Gonzalez advised he was armed with a gun and also advised that he relocated to a parking lot at the intersection of Buddy Rogers Avenue and Monty Hall Drive in Cathedral City. Upon arriving at the parking lot, officers contacted Gonzalez. While officers attempted to speak with Gonzalez, he shot himself with a firearm that was concealed in the vehicle., according to Osborne. Officers went to Gonzalez to render aid, and learned he was deceased.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office was contacted, and personnel responded to the scene to conduct an investigation (Riverside County Coroner’s case 2025-01480). Gonzalez’s next of kin has been notified.
