Theme for Summer Reading is ‘Find Your Voice’
PALM SPRINGS – The Palm Springs Public Library urges everyone to sign up and participate in Summer Reading this year. Registration is easy to do online and opens Monday, June 12.
The six-week program continues through July 22. The theme for this year is “Find Your Voice.” Weekly in-person activities have been planned for youth, teens and adults incorporating this theme, so there will be something for everyone, lots of fun, and a chance to win great prizes.
These programs are in addition to the weekly Pre School-Story Time and Youth DIY crafts. For a full schedule of events visit the Library’s calendar at www.pslibrary.org.
Through the support of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library the Library, will once again be giving away free new books each week to children and teens. Participants who check in weekly at the Library will receive a free new book (grade level/age specific) and adults will receive a voucher for a free gently used book (up to $2 in value) from the Friends of the Palm Springs Library bookstore.
Besides free books, children, teens, and adults can enter to win weekly door prizes at events all generously donated and provided by local merchants and organizations; a full list of sponsors is online. There is also a selection of grand prizes each age group can enter to win, including an outdoor Bluetooth projector or Amazon Gift card for adults, a Nintendo Switch or Amazon Gift card for teens, and a Singing Karaoke System or Nintendo Switch for kids, just to name a few. All grand prizes were generously provided by the Friends of the Palm Springs Library. More Summer Reading program information can be found online at www.pslibrary.org.
“We’ve planned a wonderful Summer Series for kids, teens and adults to make the library a great place to find your voice,” said Jeannie Kays, Library Director. “Themed events include chef demonstrations, magicians, live animals, painting, and many more fun activities.
But there’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss. Studies also indicate students who read recreationally outperformed those who do not. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests. Our library is committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all families.”
So, mark your calendars and don’t miss this fun, annual celebration of reading! Online registration begins Monday, June 12, 2023 at palmspringsca.beanstack.org.
