INDIO — For the third time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indio Senior Center is holding a Care Package Giveaway for seniors 55 and older.

Senior Center staff and volunteers are hoping to increase the number of care packages distributed in September to accommodate up to 800 seniors on a first-come, first served basis.

“We are extremely thankful to the volunteers and the community’s efforts in making this giveaway so successful,” Argelia Jimenez, Community Program Administrator, said in a prepared statement.  “However, the fact that we’ve run out of care packages in our previous giveaways shows how greatly these little gestures of kindness are needed and appreciated.”

This drive-by event for seniors 55 and older will be held from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 at the Indio Senior Center at 45700 Aladdin St.

Donations of non-perishable food, face masks, hand sanitizers, water, word puzzle books,  lotion, towels, blankets, socks, toilet paper, and any items that will help make seniors more comfortable in the months to come will be accepted through Sept. 18.  Call (760) 391-4170 or email seniorcenter@indio.org to donate, or for more information.

The Indio Senior Center remains closed for regular programming, however, several classes and programs are being held virtually via the Senior Center’s Facebook page.
